If your teen is suffering from problems that seem to overwhelm them, we can help. You may have noticed moodiness, withdrawal, or a breakdown of communication between you and your teen. It could feel even harder if you suspect self-harm, addiction, or rebellion. Compassionate Christian counselors can help you with these common problems teens experience.
Your teen may be under tremendous pressure to perform, far more than you experienced at his or her age. Besides the normal loads at school, home and work, your teen has more online temptations and social expectations than previous generations faced. So many teens collapse under this intense pressure, and they may act out due to frustration or fear. The counselors at our offices have years of experience helping teens overcome their problems.
Teens often get all the help they require from talk therapy. Even the best parents may not be able to offer the objective third-party perspective a trustworthy counselor can give. With Christian counseling, your teen will receive compassionate care from a biblical worldview.

Five Common Problems for Teens
Many of the teens we see in our office exhibit symptoms of these five common problems. If your teen struggles with any of these, we offer Bible-based care through counseling sessions.
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety is the most common problem teenagers face today. Their generation has many anxiety and fear triggers. Left to themselves, their anxiety can turn into depression or other life-threatening issues.
Anxiety can be related to real or perceived triggers. Depression can also be related to those same triggers, brain chemistry, or genetic coding. We know the triggers that cause anxiety and depression for teens, and we have the tools to diagnose and treat both disorders with care and compassion.
If your teen seems anxious or depressed for more than two weeks in a row, it’s important to schedule an appointment with a counselor. Teens are not well equipped to handle these strong problems on their own and may turn to self-destructive behaviors to cope. Timely intervention can help place your teen on a much healthier path.
Family Problems
Many teens come from dysfunctional families. Whether a teen’s parents have divorced or have stayed married despite ongoing tension, the teen can feel angry, confused, defiant, or sad. A caring counselor can help your teen sort through his or her feelings and separate the lies from the truth affirmed in the Bible.
If you notice your teen experiencing symptoms like headaches, marked fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, or physical pains with no known explanation, these may be psychosomatic issues related to family problems. More behaviors to watch include withdrawal, distrust, angry outbursts, or crying spells. It’s worth taking your teen to a counselor to help head off bigger problems and invite healthy change in the whole family.
Bullying
Bullying doesn’t only occur among young children at the playground. Your teen could be suffering from attacks from peers who bully in person or online. Bullying is a serious issue that can lead to devastating consequences. If your teen’s mood soars downward overnight, it may be due to a bully’s influence. You need to learn if your teen is being bullied.
Speak to your teen’s school if you discover bullying. However, it’s also important to consult with a Christian counselor to deal with the trauma and forge a new path ahead. Your teen needs to know he or she is loved by God, and a Christian counselor will reinforce this truth in counseling sessions, helping to restore your teen’s self-image.
Self-Harm
Among all age groups, teens are the most likely to practice self-harm. Most teens who engage in self-harm do so to cope with feelings of distress, overwhelm, anxiety or depression. They often do not realize that repeated acts of self-harm can be life-threatening. Professional help from a Christian counselor is crucial if your teen is caught up in the destructive cycles of self-harm.
Your teen may cut as a form of self-harm. Other forms include picking at skin, pulling hair, or burning. Your teen will likely go to great lengths to conceal evidence of self-harm. We can assist you in showing love and compassion to your teen and deliver the help your teen desperately needs.
Eating Disorders
Millions of teens suffer from a range of eating disorders. The teen years are the most likely time for eating disorders to develop in your child’s life. If you suspect your teen has an eating disorder, it’s vital to get help from a Christian counselor as soon as possible.
Eating disorders operate on a spectrum from anorexia and bulimia to binge eating and compulsive eating disorders. Left untreated, these diseases can cause long-term damage to your teen’s internal organs and reproductive systems. However, talk therapy is often a good way to start the treatment process for these disorders. An experienced Christian counselor will know which treatment plan will best serve your teen.
